Town of East Hartford Issues Additional and Supplemental Motor Vehicle Tax Bills

The Town of East Hartford regrets to announce that it must issue additional and supplemental motor vehicle tax bills. At the time of the June, 2017 printing of tax bills, State law prohibited issuing motor vehicle tax bills in any amount greater than 32 mills. The passage of the State budget in October, 2017, reduced state aid to East Hartford, while raising that cap on motor vehicle tax bills from 32 mills to 39 mills. In order to balance the town’s operating budget for the current year, which was reliant on municipal aid from the state, the Town Council at their November 28, 2017 meeting, voted to approve the issuance of the additional and supplemental tax bills to cover that reduction in aid.

Beginning Friday, December 15, 2017, the Town of East Hartford will issue an additional supplemental motor vehicle tax bill at 7 mills to all taxpayers who received a tax bill in late June, 2017 for the assessed value of owned automobiles as reported on the October 1, 2016 grand list.

The Town of East Hartford will also issue supplemental motor vehicle tax bills at 39 mills to any taxpayer who purchased an automobile after October 2, 2016 through July 31, 2017 that was not recorded on the October 1, 2016 grand list.
