Summer is here, which means it’s time to get your play on! This July, discover the power of play with East Hartford Parks & Recreation as they celebrate Park and Recreation Month. A variety of fun activities are planned for residents of all ages and abilities including outdoor concerts, splash parties, swim lessons, summer camps, and theater shows.

East Hartford Parks & Recreation is celebrating Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), and all the ways parks and recreation has the power to transform our daily lives. From providing us places to play, get fit and stay healthy to fostering new relationships and forging a connection with nature, our close-to-home community parks and recreation facilities provide essential services and improve quality of life.

“East Hartford is a vibrant community with a many great parks and recreation opportunities available to the public,” said Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc. “I’m very proud of our Parks and Recreation Department, who maintain wonderful facilities for our residents and have put together a great summer calendar of events and programs.

“The East Hartford Parks & Recreation Department offers a wealth of opportunities for residents to reap the benefits of health and wellness, social equity, and conservation, right in their own back yards” said Kristine Vincent, Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation. “We’ve put out a July Recreation calendar to tie to the celebration of Park and Recreation Month and to show residents that there’s an opportunity to recreate every day”.

East Hartford Parks & Recreation will culminate its celebration of Park and Recreation Month at the Yard Goats game on Saturday, July 29th, 6:35 PM.  Tickets for East Hartford residents are on sale at the Parks & Recreation office, 50 Chapman Place for $12.

NRPA is celebrating the month by hosting a weekly contest encouraging people to show them why play is so important in their lives. Visit www.nrpa.org/July for more information on how to participate.
