East Hartford, CT— The Town of East Hartford will once again sponsor Flu Clinics in the fall for residents who have not yet received a flu vaccine.

Mayor Marcia Leclerc and the East Hartford Health Department urge residents who have not yet received the 2020-2021 flu vaccine, to consider obtaining it at one of the town-sponsored flu clinics held in October.

The East Hartford Health Department is sponsoring flu clinics on the following dates and times for adults ages 19 years old and older.

  • Wednesday, October 7th; 4 – 6 PM at North End Senior Center, 90 Remington Rd. This is a drive-through clinic, residents are asked to enter the clinic from McKee Street.

  • Saturday, October 17th; 9 AM – 2 PM at Two Rivers Magnet Middle School, 337 E River Dr. This is a drive-through clinic, residents are asked to enter the clinic from East River Drive.

These Health Department-sponsored Flu Vaccine Clinics are provided by Hartford HealthCare at Home, Inc. Driver’s license, or other ID showing birthdate and address, and insurance card are required. Insurances accepted are Anthem, Aetna, Connecticare, Cigna, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage Plans of Anthem, Aetna, and Connecticare. There are no out-of-pocket expenses and reservations are not necessary. Please note that these clinics are both drive-through, as the Health Department is taking all necessary precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please carefully follow signs directing traffic flow.

“As we are approaching the flu season, I find it necessary to stress that getting a flu shot this fall is more important than ever” said East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “It is every person’s responsibility to put prevention to good use and make vaccination a part of their routine healthcare. Additionally, please don’t let your guard down as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please, continue to help our community reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus and protect yourself, your family, our residents and especially those most vulnerable by adhering to social distancing, wearing facemasks and following recommended precautions,” she added.

The Health Department will host two additional flu clinics, sponsored by ShopRite Pharmacy on the following days:

  • Friday, October 23rd and Friday, October 30th; 9 AM – 1 PM at the East Hartford Public   Library Lawn, 840 Main St.

At these two clinics, vaccinations will be made available to individuals, ages 18 years and older. Please, bring your ID and Insurance card. Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances are accepted.

In addition to the flu vaccine, people should continue to follow proper mask etiquette, practice frequent hand washing and use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when water is unavailable, avoid those who are ill, stay at home if sick with the flu and practice cough/sneeze etiquette (i.e., cough/sneeze into bend of elbow). If you think you are sick with the flu, contact your healthcare provider. Prescription antiviral medicines are available for use in certain circumstances.

“People can be vaccinated anytime, but it takes about two weeks for protection to kick in,” said East Hartford Health Director Jim Cordier. “October is an optimal time to get a shot, as the flu season usually peaks in the winter and can last through May.”
