Senior Center Weekly Update - Monday, September 18, 2017
Medicare Open Enrollment, where you can switch your Part D prescription plan or Medicare Advantage plan, begins on October 15 and ends on December 7. Also, you may qualify for Medicare Savings Programs if your income is less than $2472 for a single person or $3328 for a couple and there is no asset limit. On Tuesday, October 3 at 1 p.m., the East Hartford Senior Center will host Medicare Boot Camp. You will learn about Medicare, its benefits, and how and when to enroll. You can also find out how to get help paying for some of the costs. If you, or someone you know, would like to hear this presentation in Spanish, we will offer Understanding Medicare in Spanish on Thursday, October 5 at 1 p.m. We, in East Hartford, are so fortunate to have Caseworker Lillian Micelli to provide one-on-one Medicare Counseling. She can be reached at 860-569-5671. Our goal is to ensure that all East Hartford residents are receiving all of the assistance that they are eligible for to help pay Medicare premiums, coinsurance, and deductibles and are in the best plan for each individual.
Touchpoints Rehab will sponsor a monthly event, You’re Invited! Complimentary Lunch and Learn. The topic after lunch is Music and the Mind. Did you know that music is received by every part of our brain? Please join Loreen Downham, a Memory Care Specialist from Westside Care Center, to learn how music has a positive effect on our memory, ability to learn and our state of mind. Seating is limited. Please call the office to make a reservation for this free lunch and program.
Social Services Assistant, Vinny Sartori has been assisting people with technology individually for quite a while. We are now fortunate that he is teaching a class. Attend his free class on Friday, September 29 at 1 p.m. to learn about Instagram and how you can share your photos. Vinny is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher.
The first meeting of the iPad User Group was wonderful. Join us for the next meeting on Monday, September 25. At 10 a.m. in the Computer Room. The group will continue meeting on the second and fourth Monday at 10 a.m. The iPad User Group is not a class but a group of people who can share what they have learned with each other. If you use an iPad, you will find this discussion very worthwhile.
The first meeting of the Investment Club is Monday, September 25 at 10 a.m. This new group is for those who are interested in discussing finances. No money will be pooled or invested. Stop in! Try it out!
Our monthly At the Movies feature is Going in Style, a comedy with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin. Refreshments are provided by Riverside Health & Rehabilitation. Drop in on Tuesday, September 26 at 2 p.m. for the movie and more!
