Join Mayor Mike Walsh, Development Director Eileen Buckheit, CRDA representatives, East Hartford Town Council and local leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to signify the opening of the brand-new pedestrian bridge on Silver Lane over Willow Brook.

The project cost was $1.2 million, fully funded through the State of Connecticut. Mather Corporation out of Bloomfield was the contractor for the project, designed by TranSystems.

The project took several years to complete due to several complicated factors including crossing the Willow Brook and entering into an agreement with the Office of Policy and Management. The Town hopes to eventually complete the sidewalk gap all the way to Forbes Street and add some areas of pedestrian lighting closer to the former Plaza which is now owned by the Town.

Sidewalks, bike lanes, and pedestrian lighting are essential elements of development. They create walkable communities which increase foot and car traffic as the shoppers and visitors feel safer both to shop and walk the neighborhood.  This is a small but important step in our long range goals.

Directions: Enter through Simmons Rd (East Gate), take a right at the stop sign, take a right into a grass parking lot 10.
