Mayor Leclerc declares a Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency

January 26th 2015

East Hartford, CT– Mayor Marcia Leclerc has declared a Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency today at 4:00PM in anticipation of the impending blizzard, which is anticipated to heavily impact the town tonight through Tuesday.  In addition, the Mayor has announced that all nonessential town employees should not report to work on Tuesday, January 27.

“This is a significant storm,” said Mayor Leclerc.  “Residents should shelter in place as the significant snowfall will limit the safe movement of residents and allow emergency personnel and utility crews to safely respond and make sure that our plows can keep critical roadways clear.” In addition the Police Department has issued a town wide on-street parking ban. This parking ban will take effect on Monday, January 26, 2015 and will remain in effect until 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 unless rescinded earlier or extended.

Residents are encouraged to use lead time to put their plans in place and to acquire the appropriate commodities to shelter in place through the duration of the storm. Also please be prepared for a one day delay on garbage pickup for the remainder of the week as Public Works has announced there will not be a garbage pickup on Tuesday January 27th.

A partial activation of our Emergency Operation Center will begin at 4:00PM today and will go in to full activation as required.

While the State is monitoring the storm the Town of East Hartford is reviewing our Emergency Operations Procedures.  Additionally we are recording safety preparedness segments for our local TV, so tune to local channel 5 or 96 to view this important announcement.
