Living Room Conversations on Civic Engagement

September 29 - October 5

Living Room Conversations offers a simple, sociable and structured way to practice communicating across differences while building understanding and relationships. In February 2020, the the library hosted a series of Living Room Conversations on race and ethnicity using a template developed by Living Room Conversations and customized by Thought Partner Solutions. As a followup to this successful in-person series, the library is holding a series of virtual conversations on Civic Engagement.
What do you expect from yourself as a member of this community? What conversation do you wish your community was having right now? Join us to discuss these questions and more!
Sessions will be held over the course of a week: September 29 – October 5. Choose the session that is most convenient for your schedule, and register at the library’s online events calendar:
Morning: 10:00 – 11:30 AM
Friday, October 1 & Saturday, October 2
Afternoon: 2:00 – 3:30 PM
Thursday, September 30
Evening, 6:30 – 8:00 PM
Wednesday, September 29, Monday, October 4, and Tuesday, October 5
Additional sessions will be added based on demand. Each session will gather 4 - 7 people via Zoom for about 90 minutes to listen to and be heard by others. Rather than debating or convincing others, we take turns talking to share and learn, and be curious. No preparation is required.
Living Room Conversations on Civic Engagement are offered by Propel East Hartford, a stream of programs and services for people who want to make a difference in East Hartford, and funded by a civic engagement grant from Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Facilitation support will be provided by members of the Resident Advisory Council (RAC) a program of East Hartford CONNects.
