Important Information for the November 8th Election

Registration Deadlines and Voter Information

Registering to Vote:
You can register to vote in person at the Registrar of Voters or Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall (740 Main St.), or register by mail or online at the Secretary of the State’s website. All online, mail, or in-person registrations must be completed or postmarked BY NOVEMBER 1. If you register by this deadline, you can vote in person at your assigned polling place. Below is the full schedule of election dates and deadlines.

Tuesday November 1, 2016: 
This is the LAST DAY for MAIL-IN voter registration (MUST BE post marked)
This is the LAST DAY for IN-PERSON voter registration.

NOTE:   
If you turn 18, become a US Citizen or move to East Hartford on
or after November 1, you may register IN-PERSON until 5:00PM on
Monday, November 7, 2016.

Monday November 7, 2016:
Registrar’s Office will be open from 9:00AM – 5:00PM
Only persons that turned 18, became a US Citizen or moved to East Hartford
after November 1st  may register to vote and MUST appear IN-PERSON

Tuesday November 8, 2016:
*Advisory from the Secretary of the State-Long Lines Expected For Same Day Registration*
Voters may take advantage of Election Day Registration (also known as same day registration). Election Day Registration will take place on November 8, 2016 between 6AM and 8PM,at Town Hall ONLY (740 Main St).  Proof of residency and photo ID is required you may then cast your ballot at Town Hall. Additionally, new voters may fill out their voter registration online, but must come to Town Hall to have their registration processed and to cast their ballot.

Please note that long lines and waits are expected for Election Day Registration. Voters are cautioned to plan accordingly. Please note that you must be fully registered prior to polls closing at 8PM. If you have NOT completed the registration process before 8:00 PM, you WILL NOT be able to vote. Please allow plenty of time for the registration process and be prepared for lines.
