East Hartford Public Library Summer Reading 2021: Play, Make, Explore, Read

east hartford summer reading

East Hartford, CT— Summer reading is for everyone! The East Hartford Public Library has summer reading incentive programs with prizes for adults, teens, school-aged children and preschoolers. Registration is open now, and the program begins on June 14, when participants can start logging their reading into our mobile-friendly online system. The library summer reading program also counts towards the Governor’s Summer Reading challenge, a project of the Connecticut State Library and the CT Department of Education.

To register for summer reading, visit the library’s website (www.easthartfordct.gov/library) and click on the “Summer Reading” menu item on the left side of our website. Click on the link for the relevant program: preschool, children’s, teen, or adult. We’re using ReadSquared software this summer, which can also be downloaded as an app to easily log activity wherever you are this summer. The ReadSquared app is available in the iTunes and Google Play stores.

Preschoolers, school-aged children, and teens will earn a prize for signing up! To earn points on ReadSquared, children and teens can log book titles, attend library programs (either outdoor in person or virtual), and complete a line on the Bingo card to be eligible for weekly raffle prizes. Prizes aren’t just for the kids! Our adult summer reading has prizes, too, including gift certificates from local businesses.

Wondering what to read? Borrow a book from a friend, visit us at the library, or re-read an old favorite from your own bookshelf—all books can count towards your summer reading goal.

We have new and popular titles for all ages available for browsing at Raymond Library. Expanded browsing access will be added on June 28, when we re-open the children’s room, and on July 6, when we re-open the atrium area for access to adult collections. We will continue to operate all summer in a “grab-and-go” model, with no indoor seating except for our public computers. Although reading and study space is not currently available inside the building, we offer outdoor WiFi access and a place to read and relax on the tables and chairs on our patio as well as benches on our shaded lawn.

For detailed program information, visit our website and click on “events calendar.” This summer, we will continue to offer virtual programs for all ages via Zoom, as well as a new lineup of outdoor options. For our outdoor programs, register for a reminder, and to be notified in the event of weather-related cancelations.
