East Hartford Public Library launches Propel East Hartford

propel

This summer, the East Hartford Public Library will launch Propel East Hartford, a new stream of programs and services for people who want to make a difference in East Hartford. Each quarter, the library will offer programs to foster community involvement and pride.

Propel East Hartford was developed through the library’s participation in EXCITE Transformation for Libraries, a grant-funded project of the Connecticut State Library. Four staff members from East Hartford joined library staff from University of Massachusetts Medical School, Westerly Public Library (RI), Cranston Public Library (RI), Baltimore County Public Library (MD), and Bryant University in a year-long process of learning and mentoring with consultant Jeanine Esposito. Through the process, staff from East Hartford learned to engage the community in ways that are meaningful and exciting. Through a process of community conversations and co-design sessions, Propel East Hartford was created by the community, for the community.

For the first Propel East Hartford program series, we are offering leadership workshops from Leadership Greater Hartford.

On Monday, June 24 at 6:30 PM, join us for Values Light the Way, a workshop that will help participants identify and understand how value clarification is essential to translating our values into behaviors that enhance our leadership capabilities. Understanding values helps in the development of resiliency, understanding motivations, and triggers. Understanding values creates cultures where individuals can trust, communicate, and engage in respectful dialogue. Values light the way for interpersonal engagement, understanding, and inspirational leadership.

On Wednesday, July 10 at 6:30 PM, join us for Learning How Groups Work Best, a workshop that introduces basic principles of participatory decision-making and helps participants understand the dynamics that contribute to effective group work.

On Wednesday, July 24 at 6:30 PM, learn about Better Brainstorming at an interactive workshop that will engage participants with exercises to help with brainstorming.

The final workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 7 at 6:30 PM. In Leading Through Influence, you’ll learn the nine key influencing strategies and the situations in which each is most effective, recognizing that today’s leaders increasingly rely less on authority and more on their ability to influence.

Register for some or all of the workshops, which are free and open to the public HERE.

These workshops are made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services grant #RE-95-17-0068-17 in the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian program.
