East Hartford, CT – Make East Hartford Public Library a destination for your April vacation! Check out books, movies, music, and magazines, and stay for one of our family programs.

  • On Monday, April 8 at 11am, bring your imagination and children ages 5 years and up to be creative and beat the clock! Tim Merle of ImagArena will be here with his fast paced program where you'll have to complete a challenge before time is up! Challenges will be completed using LEGOs and other snap together toys. Registration is required.
  • Join us on Wednesday, April 10 at either 1:00PM or 3:00 PM for a family cooking class with Lindsey Kent, RD, retail dietician at the ShopRite of East Hartford & Manchester. She will teach us how to prepare a delicious and healthy snack. This program is recommended for children ages 5 and up. Registration is required as space is limited.
  • Learn coding with Google Computer Science beginning on Wednesday, April 10 at 4PM. Create your own digital music and sounds! Use the computer to design your own music, create your own instruments and music videos, and learn how technology is used in the music industry! This class will continue every Wednesday until May 29. For children in grades 4-8. Registration is required. 
  • Let's go fly a kite after the Family Kite Workshop on Thursday, April 11 10:30AM-12:30PM. Come make a kite out of simple materials! Then take your kite outside on the lawn to fly. Materials and instructions will be provided. Recommended for ages 5 years and older with an adult. 
  • You might be a poet and don't know it! Try creating a few lines during our Blackout Poetry event on Thursday, April 11 5:30-7:00PM. Stop by to find the poems hidden in old book pages. For children ages 8 years and up.
  • Our furry friends and their humans will be here on Friday, April 12 11:30AM-12:30PM for Read to the Dogs. Bring your own book or select one from the library and read to a dog for 15 minutes. Builds confidence and strengthens reading skills! Dogs and their humans are members of Healers with Halos Therapy Dogs and are sponsored by Bolton Veterinary Hospital. Registration is required.
  • Words + magazines = collage poetry. All day Saturday, April 13, everyone can cut out the words in magazines to create original or published poetic works of art. Drop in!
