East Hartford Police Department Announces Graduation of 10th Session of Citizen Police Academy

Chief Scott M. Sansom and the East Hartford Police Department announce the graduation of the tenth East Hartford Citizen Police Academy session. A formal graduation ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 24th in the Police Training Room at the East Hartford Public Safety Complex, 31 School Street, East Hartford, CT.

The Citizen Police Academy was held from 6:30 PM until 9:30 PM every Wednesday from September 5 through October 24, 2018.  Topics covered during the academy session included the history of the police department, police employment and training, legal standards, patrol and special unit operations, criminal investigations, evidentiary services, use of force, police and the public, and proactive policing efforts. 

"Congratulations to the graduates of the East Hartford Citizen Police Academy," said Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc.  "The Citizen Academy is a great opportunity for members of our community to not only become better acquainted with the Police Department, but to also understand the rationale behind police operations,”

Graduating members of the tenth session were Cynthia Alex, Cynthia Beaupre, Evered Campbell, Elizabeth Cardoso, Mark Cartelli, Juan Garcia-Collazo, Tienna Grant, Hala Hussein Helmi Mashhour, Robert Mazurkivich, Edward Moreau, Mariah Mora, Victor Nieves, Melitza Nieves, Theresa Perrone, Yasmin Reyes, Virginia Ruiz, Rev. Garlen Taylor, Damien Tyler, Andreza Veilleux, and Emily Weil.

“We strongly believe that a mutual understanding between police and the community is essential, and this Academy is a great opportunity to increase that level of understanding,” said Chief Sansom.  “This graduating class is terrific.  Their interest and enthusiasm during this program inspires us to continue with it, and we look forward to announcing plans for the 11th Session soon.”
