East Hartford Hurricane Henri Update 2

east hartford warning update

East Hartford, CT— Mayor Marcia Leclerc issued a Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Henri on Friday, August 20. A hurricane warning is currently in effect for the State of Connecticut, and the storm will significantly impact our area beginning Sunday, August 22, bringing 4-8 inches of rain and sustained winds of 70 mph. Numerous downed trees and power outages are likely, and heavy rain may result in flash flooding in certain areas.

“The Town of East Hartford has begun preparations for Henri and I am urging residents to also take actions today to prepare for this significant weather event,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “In anticipation of Hurricane Henri making landfall in Connecticut, we have partially activated the Town’s Emergency Operation Center in a monitoring mode and anticipate fully opening as conditions evolve.”

Mayor Leclerc said staff from the East Hartford Fire, Police and Public Works Departments stand ready to address the results of this major weather event.

Residents are urged to stock up on supplies such as batteries, flashlights, non-perishable food items, bottled water, and toiletries, and charge your electronic devices today. With significant shortages of gas and ice, make sure to have adequate fuel for your vehicles and generators, and ice for coolers in case of multi-day power outages. Secure any outdoor objects and remain indoors for the duration of the storm. Please visit the CDC hurricane preparedness website and the East Hartford Plan 9 Community Preparedness for additional storm preparation tips.
