In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established a $100,000 Greater Together Community Fund for each of the 29 towns in the Greater Hartford region, which includes the town of East Hartford. The purpose of the Greater Together Community Funds is to support residents in taking ownership around the needs in their towns, encourage broad and inclusive civic engagement and anchor the Hartford Foundation in each town.  In January 2022, the Hartford Foundation gave an additional $50,000 to each Community Fund with half of the funding being maintained in the Funds’ endowments and the remaining half to support current grantmaking efforts. After broad outreach to town residents, East Hartford’s Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee was established in 2022.

The work of the East Hartford Greater Together Community Fund is led by an Advisory Committee which is responsible for developing an inclusive process to identify the needs in the community, and design and implement a grantmaking process aimed to ensure that the Fund can have the greatest impact for the benefit of town residents.

The members of East Hartford’s Advisory Committee are: Fabiana Aretusa Silva, Nasreen Al Omari, Mya Bynoe, Maura Callahan, Dana Chafiotte, Tabitha Harris, Claude Mayo, Deirdre Stolte, Ashley Tierinni, Wendy Whitt.

The Greater Together Community Funds also create an opportunity for individuals as well as organizations to make tax-deductible contributions to any of the 29 Greater Together Community Funds. There have been a number of contributions to Greater Together Community Funds and all donations of any amount are still welcome.

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is the community foundation for Hartford and 28 surrounding towns. Through partnerships, the Foundation seeks to strengthen communities in Greater Hartford by putting philanthropy in action to dismantle structural racism and achieve equity in social and economic mobility.
