East Hartford, CT— Following Governor Lamont’s updated vaccination guidance at the end of last month, the East Hartford Health Department made a quick turnaround in its vaccine administration and successfully switched gears toward vaccinating local teachers and childcare providers.

“It’s a testament to our lean staff’s commitment and our ability to be nimble to quickly establish an efficient plan of action and develop successful partnerships to facilitate vaccination of hundreds of local teachers and childcare providers,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc.

Since the Governor’s announcement, the Town of East Hartford COVID-19 response team, in collaboration with East Hartford Public Schools (EHPS) and Intercommunity HealthCare, have successfully administered the first dose of vaccine for public school educators and staff within the first two weeks of eligibility.

“We reached this milestone through coordinated scheduling of vaccinations at East Hartford and Intercommunity clinics, as well as operating clinics at five EHPS sites,” said Health Director Laurence Burnsed.“Our ability to rapidly expand vaccination teams with school nurses and administrative staff was an essential component to address the state’s goal of vaccinating all eligible education sector staff that want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.”

The Town of East Hartford also partnered with CREC and Goodwin University to help vaccinate eligible staff. To date, a total of 749 education sector personnel received a COVID-19 vaccination at clinics operated by municipal and public school teams.

“We are thrilled to be able to work with the Mayor to collaborate with the Town of East Hartford’s Department of Public Health and its new Director Laurence Burnsed,” said Superintendent of Schools Nathan Quesnel. “To have the ability to vaccinate our staff members has improved the efforts of our district to protect the health of the EHPS community and support the transition of our students back to the classroom five days per week.”

Additionally, East Hartford’s outreach to area childcare providers has resulted in 43 individuals receiving vaccinations to date.

In their effort to vaccinate as many eligible local childcare providers as possible, the East Hartford Health Department will hold two after-hours COVID vaccination clinics, designed specifically for childcare providers.

These clinics will be held on the following days:

  • Saturday, March 27, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Monday, March 29, 6:00 - 8:00 PM

The clinics will be held at the East Hartford Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford CT, 06108.

Childcare providers can call the Town of East Hartford Health Department at 860-291-7324 (five days a week from 8:30am to 4:30 pm) to schedule an appointment. You can also email your appointment request to health@easthartfordct.gov.
