East Hartford CONNects, Goodwin University Offer Career Readiness Bootcamp and Individual Employment Supports

East Hartford, CT— On behalf of East Hartford CONNects, East Hartford residents are invited to participate in the third session of the Professional Skills Academy, offered thanks to the collaboration of East Hartford CONNects and Goodwin University. Classes will kick off virtually on Monday, May 10, 2021. The Professional Skills Academy offers three weeks of virtual sessions, covering all aspects of career readiness, including basic Microsoft skills and financial literacy, and a fourth week of informational sessions with employers and community resources. Some instruction will take the form of live video classes, while other courses will utilize the 180 Skills virtual course selection and may be taken at a schedule that works best for the participant. There will be no more than four hours of required coursework per day.

Other important information and requirements:

  •  This program is only open to East Hartford residents and is free for all participants who are accepted and enrolled.
  • Participants who successfully complete all required coursework, are eligible to earn four credentials from Goodwin University: Career Prep Training, Mentoring, Conflict Response and Diversity & Team Dynamics.
  • A High school diploma, GED or NEDP are required to participate.
  • A personal resume is required to participate, though help is available to create a draft before program starts, for those without one.   
  • A free device is offered to all who are accepted to ensure virtual participation.
  • Some employment supports are available based on income eligibility, including transportation and childcare options.
  • Career Coaching from Goodwin University and East Hartford CONNects is available and expected to continue for a minimum of four months following completion of the program. Other community partners support includes: The CT Center for Advanced technology (CCAT) and the American Job Center at Goodwin University in East Hartford.
  • There are opportunities for more advanced coursework and an introduction to manufacturing.
