East Hartford Advises Renters and Landlords Financially Impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic of the Eviction Moratorium Expiration and Available Resources

East Hartford, CT— The federal moratorium on evictions expired July 31, 2021 and the Town of East Hartford would like to advise residents of assistance available through the UniteCT program.

As of August 2, 2021, more than $1.2 million dollars in rental assistance has been disbursed to East Hartford residents.  If you are a renter or landlord who has been financially impacted by the pandemic, UniteCT offers financial assistance for rent and utilities accrued since March 13, 2020 for renters and landlords in Connecticut who qualify. The program offers up to $15,000 in rental assistance and up to $1,500 in electricity and utility payments to landlords and utility companies on behalf of tenants who qualify for the program. The program will reimburse landlords for 100% of covered arrears.

If you are a renter seeking financial assistance for your rent and utilities, you can find more information about UniteCT, eligibility and qualifications, and how to apply for the program here. Some of the program qualifications for renters require that you:

  • Be a permanent or primary resident of the State of Connecticut.
  • Demonstrate need for assistance as reflected by the eligibility criteria.
  • Complete the online application in full and upload all necessary supporting documentation.
  • Certify household income at or below 80% of the Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) area median income (AMI). Income Eligibility Source Documentation Applicants may provide either annual or monthly income source documentation to document income.
