Chuck’s Automotive to Expand and Redevelop on Burnside Avenue

East Hartford Redevelopment Agency Loan Helps Finance Project

The Town of East Hartford’s Redevelopment Agency today announced a successful partnership with Chuck’s Automotive to build a new facade and expansion for the business, located at 653 Burnside Avenue.

“This investment provides East Hartford with the best of both worlds,” said Town Development Director Eileen Buckheit.  “Not only do these funds continue efforts to beautify and revitalize Burnside Avenue, they also provide support for a company that has called the Town home for generations.”

The Agency is providing a $100,000 forgivable loan to the family-owned business. David Holmes of East Hartford-based Capitol Studio Architects designed the new look, building upon the vision of owner Chuck Tischofer and his son Greg.  The new appearance is colorful and modern, with a flair that evokes classic art deco design.  Pelletier Builders of Coventry handled the construction.

“I have always had the vision to add on and expand the building to bring in new opportunities,” said Chuck Tischofer, who began working at the shop as a young boy and fulfilled a dream when he purchased it in 2004.  “I am very appreciative of all of the help from the Town of East Hartford, particularly from the Mayor's office.”

This is just one of a variety of recent improvements on Burnside Avenue, including new bicycle lanes to improve safety and traffic flow, the recent opening of Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores, and the renovation of the Citgo Food Bag station.  More projects to help businesses are on the way in East Hartford, as the Town is currently proceeding with a new Commercial Facade Improvement Program to help business update and improve their storefronts.

Chuck’s Automotive was founded in 1948 and is in its third generation of family ownership.  They focus on car and light truck repairs.
