East Hartford, CT – Annually, a week in May is designated as National Public Works Week, celebrating tens of thousands of men and women who provide and maintain critical infrastructure and services, collectively known as public works.

This year, National Public Works week is celebrated the week of May 16-22 with a theme “Stronger Together.” The theme challenges residents and public works employees to think about the role public works plays in creating a great place to live.  By working together, the impact citizens and public works professionals can have on their communities is magnified and results in the ability to accomplish goals once thought unattainable.

East Hartford Department of Public Works, a member of the American Public Works Association, invites residents to celebrate this professional designation virtually with a fun quiz that that highlights facilities that East Hartford Public Works maintains for residents, businesses and visitors.

**CLICK HERE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE QUIZ**

East Hartford residents who reside in a 1 to 6 family building and finish the quiz will receive a bulk waste pickup coupon. The coupon will allow one (1) free collection of bulky waste items from your property. Please allow 2-3 weeks for receipt of the coupon.

Public Works departments help maintain a community’s strength by working together to provide an infrastructure of services in transportation, water, wastewater, and storm-water treatment, public buildings and spaces, parks, and grounds, emergency management and first response, solid waste, and right-of-way management.  They provide togetherness needed for collaboration with all the stakeholders in capital projects, infrastructure solutions, and quality of life services.

We hope to return to in-person events for the celebration of Public Works Week in 2022! Mayor Marcia Leclerc issued a proclamation to declare the week of May 16-22 National Public Works week in East Hartford. Read the proclamation here.
