Celebrate Black History Month with the Commission on Culture and Fine Arts

EAST HARTFORD, CT – The Commission on Culture and Fine Arts of the Town of East Hartford, is sponsoring a performance of Birthed Out of Africa, on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 3:30 pm at Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford. Snow date is March 7, 2020 (same time, same place). This 70-minute production will commence with an introduction by East Hartford’s own, drummer Mr. Alvin Carter.

Birthed Out of Africa highlights notable historic moments in the African-American Experience. Depicting life in Africa to slavery through dance, poetry, musical numbers and oracle presentations. The performers will make chronological, historic “short stops” in various eras, like the transatlantic journey, the burning of the Black Wall Street, the Civil Rights Movement, the Harlem Renaissance, the Sixteenth Street Church experience, and the Jazz, Big Band and Hip-Hop eras, ending in present time.

This production is intended to help increase the awareness of African-American contributions to American history and diversity, with appreciation and respect of cultural differences through the power of art.

This event is appropriate for all age groups and attendance is FREE of charge. First 50 kids will receive a gift.
