2019-2020 Youth Basketball Program Accepting Registration Through November 21st

The Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball Program is open to girls in grades K-10 and boys in grades K-12.  Youth Basketball brochures will be distributed through the schools during the last week of October.  Copies will also be available in our office beginning Thursday, October 31st.  The registration deadline is Thursday, November 21st.

Coaches Wanted:  We are always looking for volunteer coaches for girls in grades 2-10 and boys in grades 3-8.  Applicants must submit the coaches application (found in the youth basketball brochure) by Thursday, November 21st.  All coaches must attend a mandatory evening training on Thursday, November 5th.  For more information on coaching, please see the youth basketball brochure. 

Drop-In Free Play:  Get ready for the 2019-2020 basketball season with some FREE opportunities to play! Opportunites for drop-in free play are held at East Hartford Community Cultural Center (50 Chapman Place) and are supervised by Parks and Recreation staff. Players should wear appropriate clothing/ footwear and bring water. No need to register, just show up on the days/times listed below!

  • Boys in Grades 3 & 4:  Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13, 20 & Dec. 4, 5:30 - 7:30 PM  (no program Nov. 27)
  • Boys in Grades 5 & 6:  Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, 21 & Dec. 5, 6:45 - 8:45 PM  (no program Nov. 28)
  • Boys in Grades 7 & 8:  Tuesdays, Nov. 5, 12, 19 & Dec. 3, 6:45 - 8:45 PM  (no program Nov. 26)
  • Girls in Grades 2 - 10:  Fridays, Nov. 8, 15, 22 & Dec. 6, 5:30 - 7:30 PM (no program Nov. 29)      

Player & Team Photo Day:  Player and team photos for players in grades 6 and under will be held on Saturday, December 14th at EHMS Cafeteria.  All players and coaches are required to be in the group picture, ordering is optional.  Time and information will be given out at each team's first practice. 

Youth Basketball Program Dates and Information:

Girls in Grades K-1 and Boys in Grades K-2:  Program Dates:  Sundays, January 5 - February 23 at the Community Cultural Center Gym, 50 Chapman Place.   Program held Sunday afternoons, Boys & Girls Kindergarten at 1 PM, Boys and Girls 1st Grade at 2 PM, Boys Grade 2 at 3 PM.  This is a 45 minute, introductory, skill building program for the little ones.  Our staff will ensure your child has a fun time while learning the basics of basketball. Skills, drills and much more are all part of the program.  Games will not be played at this age.  This is a drop-off program.  There are no coaches for this grade level. Fee: $25

Girls in Grades 2-4 and Boys in Grades 3-4:  Mandatory Skill Evaluation Day:   Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9 AM at Community Cultural Center Gym.  Program Dates:  Saturdays at EHMS from December 14 - February 22 and one weeknight practice per week beginning week of December 9th (practice location TBD).  Team play. Lower hoops are used. No standings are kept for this program.  Includes T-shirt, instruction and officiating. Fee: $55

Girls in Grades 5 & 6 and Boys in Grades 5 & 6:  Mandatory Skill Evaluation Day:   Saturday, Nov. 30 at 11 AM at Community Cultural Center Gym.  Program Dates:  Saturdays at EHMS from December 14 - February 22 and one weeknight practice per week beginning week of December 9th (practice location TBD).  Program includes T-shirt, instruction, participation and officiating. Fee: $55

Boys in Grades 7 & 8:  Mandatory Skill Evaluation Day:  Saturday, November 30 at 1:00 PM at Community Cultural Center Gym.  Program Dates:  One weeknight practice per week at site to be determined, begins week of Dec. 9th. Games played on Tues & Thurs nights & selected Fridays starting Jan. 2.  Certified Basketball Board Officials referee these games. Fee: $75

Girls in Grades 7–10:  Mandatory Skill Evaluation Day:  Saturday, November 30 at 1:00 PM at Community Cultural Center Gym.  Program Dates:  One weeknight practice per week at site to be determined, begins week of Dec. 9th. Games played on Tuesday evenings starting January 7.  A combination of one certified board referee and one Parks & Recreation referee will officiate. Fee: $55

Boys in Grades 9-12:  Program Dates:  Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30 - 8:45 PM, December 2 - February 21. Held at the Middle School. Supervised by Parks & Recreation staff. Participants must show their Town ID card and proof of present grade level, or EHHS/EHMS ID in order to register for the program. No fee.
