Severe Weather Alert

East Hartford Weather Alert

East Hartford, CT - The National Weather Service is forecasting a severe winter storm to impact our area starting Wednesday, February 28, 2024 and continuing until Thursday, February 29, 2024. The major impacts are expected to be strong damaging winds, and secondary impacts from rain.

Wind:

Two surges of very strong to damaging winds remain in the forecast. The first surge will be Wednesday afternoon on February 28, 2024 into early evening. The second surge of wind will occur later Wednesday evening into Thursday morning as the temperatures rapidly fall. East Hartford residents can expect wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

Rain:

Heavy windswept rain will likely cause hazardous travel Wednesday night. East Hartford is expected to see rainfall totals around 1.5 - 3 inches. Rain briefly turns to snow, as temperatures crash into the 30s and 20s behind the cold front Wednesday night. Any snow accumulations will be less than an inch. However, subfreezing temperatures combined with any residual/leftover road moisture, may yield slippery travel Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Due to high winds, residents may expect power outages. All power outages should be reported to Eversource via this link.

We offer our residents the following tips:

  • Exercise caution when driving and SLOW DOWN
  • Avoid driving through standing water, as its depth can be deceiving, and do not walk through moving water. Remember, turn around, don't drown!
  • Allow extra space to vehicles ahead of you
  • If you lose power, do NOT run generators inside your home

DO NOT REPORT INCIDENTS THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA.
