Hurricane Lee Weather Preparedness and Safety

Hurricane Lee Weather Preparedness and Safety

East Hartford, CT– The Town of East Hartford is closely monitoring the approaching Hurricane Lee. The majority of the storm will pass safely to the east of Connecticut. Lee has begun to weaken and maximum sustained winds are diminishing.

Winds will start to enter our region Friday evening, September 15, and will exit Saturday evening, September 16.

We are not expected to get significant rain with this storm, but heavy winds might result in some downed trees.

Sustained winds for Friday are projected to be between 10 – 15 mph, however gusts of 20-25 mph are expected. Saturday is expected to become windier with sustained winds of 15-25 mph and gusts of 35-40 mph.

With the ground being saturated from the recent rains and trees retaining their full leaf cover, the highest risk for our residents are power outages.

If you experience a power outage, please report to Eversource https://outagemap.eversource.com/external/default.html.

There are several, quick, low-cost steps residents can take to prepare for hurricanes or other weather-related emergencies:

  • Stock up on emergency supplies for your home and car. Make sure your items are packed in bags and ready to go in case you have to evacuate. Visit East Hartford’s Plan 9 webpage for a list of hurricane-specific supplies and preparation.

  • Additional preparedness tips are available at this link.

Emergencies can happen. When they do, the best strategy is to already have a plan in place.
