2021 Renters Rebate Program

Renters Rebate applicants have several sign-up options available for filing this year. Individuals can call the East Hartford Social Services office at 860-291-7248 to request an appointment to complete the application in-person or over the phone with a representative. The application can also be downloaded from https://portal.ct.gov/OPM/IGPP-Main/Grants/Tax-Relief-Grants/Renters--Rebate-For-ElderlyDisabled-Renters-Tax-Relief-Program, completed and returned to the department by mail or via the Town Hall drop box for processing.  Once the application is completed, a staff member will be in touch with you to review the necessary documents needed to process the application.

                         ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION IS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2020

Eligibility requirements are:

  • 65 years of age or older or 100% disabled, age 18 or older (by 12/31/2020) 
  • 2020 QUALIFYING income (including all Social Security benefits) must not have exceeded $45,800 for a married couple or $37,600 for a single individual.

Required Income Documentation (all for calendar year 2020):

  • Social Security Income (form SSA 1099) & SSI if applicable
  • Copy of 2020 Federal Income Tax Return & all schedules, if filed, 1099 forms for pensions, dividends, interest, stocks & bonds, etc.
  • W-2's from employment
  • Veterans Disability or Railroad Retirement
  • 100% Disabled: Benefit Verification letter from Social Security stating date disability began & proof of SSI benefit, along with other forms listed above, if applicable                                       
Required Expense Documentation:
 
  • Rent receipts for 2020 (all 12 months)
  • Utility bills you paid in 2020 (heat, gas, electric, only). NO telephone, cable or medical bills

Appointments may be scheduled by calling Social Services at 860-291-7248. This year's program dates run from April 1 - October 1, 2021.

Rebate checks will not start being mailed out until the end of the application period. Applicants may designate anyone to file an application on their behalf.
