Criminal Investigations Bureau

The Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) reports to the Criminal Investigations Bureau Deputy Chief, and is comprised of:

  • General Investigations Division
  • Juvenile Investigations Division
  • Hot Spot Unit (HSU)
  • Evidentiary Services Unit (ESU)
  • Intelligence (INTEL)

Members of the Criminal Investigations Bureau investigate all major crime, cases of human death and sexual assaults cases. CIB serves as the liaison to the States Attorney’s Office, the Chief Medical Examiner, and the State Police Forensic Laboratory and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Hot Spot Unit officers address street crime issues not normally detected by patrol officers. They utilize unmarked cars, officers in plainclothes and various pieces of technology designed specifically for their job tasks.
