Pedestrian Litter Containers To Be Replaced

Pedestrian Litter Containers To Be Replaced

East Hartford, CT— The Department of Public Works will remove sixty-seven (67) existing wrought-iron sidewalk litter containers and replace them with modern receptacles to improve the appearance of Main Street and other major roadways.  The new, attractive containers are made from a rigid gray plastic resin that resists denting and damage, and are easily emptied by automated refuse trucks.  The new containers have twice the capacity of the existing 32-gallon receptacles and are of significantly lower cost. The existing containers have suffered from years of wear and tear, and many have been damaged and misshapen by car impacts.  Their replacement will enhance the appearance of our downtown areas and will reduce the occurrence of litter scavenging.
