Mayor Leclerc Presents Check to Old State House for Kid Governor’s Office

East Hartford, CT – Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc presented a donation of $6,000 to Connecticut’s Old State House to fund the construction of an office for Connecticut’s Kid Governor and a Civics Action Lab to help teach kids about government and civic involvement in their community.  The Old State House is one of 9 non-profit organizations that will benefit from the 2016 Mayor’s Charity Ball. Connecticut’s First Kid Governor, Elena Tipton, is an East Hartford resident and 5th Grade student at Dr. Thomas O’Connell School.

“I am honored to be able to make this donation to help fund a great program that is teaching youth about government and civic involvement,” said Mayor Leclerc. “I want to thank East Hartford’s teachers, staff, and administrators for building and fostering a supportive environment for all students’ educational and emotional development. I am very proud that Elena is Connecticut’s first ever Kid Governor. Not only has she inspired and engaged countless students around the state to become involved in their communities through her public campaign for kindness, but she has made a significant impact on the lives of her peers. It gives me great pride to help Connecticut’s Old State House support this program and ensure other youth have an opportunity to participate in campaigns for future Kid Governors.”

“Connecticut’s Old State House is grateful to Mayor Marcia Leclerc and the supporters of her Charity Ball for the generous donation towards our Connecticut’s Kid Governor Office and Civics Action Lab in the historic Governor’s Office,” said Connecticut’s Old State House Executive Director Sally Whipple. “In our time working with Kid Governor Elena, we’ve witnessed the passion of East Hartford’s leaders and the incredible way in which they embrace and foster civic engagement among young people. In a similar way, the Office and Civics Action Lab will encourage Old State House visitors of all ages to consider how they can contribute to their own communities. Through this contribution, East Hartford’s spirit for building a strong community will inspire countless others who visit the space.”
