East Hartford Weather Alert

East Hartford Weather Alert

East Hartford, CT—The National Weather Service predicts a significant snow storm to reach our area on Tuesday morning, March 14, with total accumulations varying between two and eight inches. The East Hartford Public Works Department is closely monitoring the forecast. At this time, no parking ban has been issued. However, this is a complex storm with the forecast constantly changing. All residents are advised to monitor local news, subscribe to our website at www.easthartfordct.gov, Facebook page at www.facebook.com/townofeasthartford  and EH Alert Network at https://www.easthartfordct.gov/eh-alert to receive announcements regarding a parking ban.

If the parking ban is implemented, a blinking blue light on street light poles at key road intersections throughout town will be lit up, in addition to the usual means of communication, including the digital kiosk at Alumni Park.

In case of a significant snow storm, please note the following:

  • East Hartford Public Works crews only plow town roads. Silver Lane, Main Street and Burnside Avenue are state roads and therefore are plowed by the State Department of Transportation.

  • The Public Works Department will be fully staffed and operational to ensure all local roads are plowed. Please know, the first priority is to plow heavily-travelled roads, called arterial and collector roads. Crews will plow down the middle to allow the flow of traffic and give access to emergency vehicles, and will return several times to clear off the rest. Then, crews will handle less traveled roads and cul-de-sacs.

Things to Know:

Residents are urged to make adequate preparations for the snow, cold temperatures and dangerous roads:

  • Use Caution When Traveling: Budget extra time for your travel, go slow and watch out for other motorists and pedestrians

  • Give Way to Emergency Vehicles: Please use caution and make way for emergency vehicles and snow plows.

  • Clear Your Sidewalks, Driveways, & Crosswalks: Be aware of the ordinances for shoveling sidewalks, which are covered in Section 18-38, stating that all property owners are responsible for maintaining and clearing snow and ice from the sidewalk that abuts their property and have 8 hours after a storm to clear their sidewalks. If a storm ends overnight, the property owner then has the next 8 hours of daylight to clear their sidewalk, before they are issued a warning and then subsequently fined.
