East Hartford Police Department Participates in Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run

Torch Run Raises Money and Awareness for Special Olympics Connecticut

Over twenty of East Hartford’s Finest escorted the Connecticut Special Olympics Torch through the Town of East Hartford as part of the 2016 Law Enforcement Torch Run. This multi-day event raises money and awareness about Special Olympics in Connecticut. The East Hartford Police Department has run this event since its inception in 1986.

“I want to thank and congratulate all of our officers who are participating this year, both by running and by supporting the event,” said Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc. “We have a good showing and great support for the Torch Run each year, which shows the dedication and community spirit of our officers. Their high level of participation is a credit to the Town of East Hartford and their community.”

Chief Scott Sansom said: “It is an honor to participate, to help ‘carry the torch’ for such a noble cause.  The courage and dedication displayed by Special Olympics athletes is an inspiration for all.”

The East Hartford leg of the Torch Run starts with a hand-off from the South Windsor PD at the South Windsor / East Hartford Town Line on Ellington Road. The EHPD carrys the torch down Ellington Road and Main Street, passing Town Hall, to the Glastonbury Town Line, handing it off to the Glastonbury Police Department.
