East Hartford Issues a Weather Alert Parking Ban in Effect Starting at 7 PM, Monday, February 27

East Hartford, CT—Please be advised that due to the impending snow storm, the East Hartford Police Department will be issuing an on-street parking ban for the Town of East Hartford effective tonight, February 27 at 7 PM. The parking ban will remain in effect until further notice.

The National Weather Service predicts moderate snow to begin around 8 PM resulting in 4-6 inches of snowfall, making it the first major snowstorm of the year. There will be no delay in curbside trash and recycling pickup.

Effective tonight, February 27, the Public Works crews will begin treating local roads. Please know, East Hartford Public Works crews only plow town roads. Silver Lane, Main Street and Burnside Avenue are state roads and therefore are plowed by the State Department of Transportation.

The Public Works Department will be fully staffed and operational to ensure all local roads are plowed. Please know, the first priority is to plow heavily-traveled roads, called arterial and collector roads. Crews will plow down the middle to allow the flow of traffic and give access to emergency vehicles, and will return several times to clear off the rest. Then, crews will handle less traveled roads and cul-de-sac.

This will be the first time when the town will officially utilize the new parking ban alert system. The parking ban will be signified by the blinking blue light on street light poles at key road intersections throughout town, in addition to the usual means of communication, including the digital kiosk at Alumni Park, the town website at www.easthartfordct.gov and the Town’s official Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/townofeasthartford.

Residents are urged to not park on the street during a parking ban to allow our crews to plow roads efficiently and effectively.

Parking Options in Town Parks

Residents who have little to no access to off-street or backyard parking may park in neighborhood recreational park locations when parking bans are in effect. Public Works will delineate parking areas in neighborhood parks, place clear signage and maintain the parking areas during snow parking bans to facilitate off-street parking. Residents will be given a contact phone number for any questions. Residents who choose to park at local parks during a snow ban will do so at their own risk.

Individuals can park at the following parks during an on-street snow ban:

  • Alumni Park (1021 Main St)
  • McAuliffe Park (30 Remington Road)
  • Martin Park (307  Burnside Ave)
  • Woodland Park (Long Hill Dr)
  • Labor Field Park (Woodlawn Circle)
  • Shea Park (66 Mercer Ave)
  • Former McCartin School parking lot (70 Canterbury St)
  • Hockanum Park (356 High St).

Once the snow storm is over, residents will be required to remove their vehicles from the parks.

Things to Know:

Residents are urged to make adequate preparations for the snow, cold temperatures and dangerous roads:

  • Use Caution When Traveling: Budget extra time for your travel, go slow and watch out for other motorists and pedestrians

  • Give Way to Emergency Vehicles: Please use caution and make way for emergency vehicles and snow plows.

  • Clear Your Sidewalks, Driveways, & Crosswalks: Be aware of the ordinances for shoveling sidewalks, which are covered in Section 18-38, stating that all property owners are responsible for maintaining and clearing snow and ice from the sidewalk that abuts their property and have 8 hours after a storm to clear their sidewalks. If a storm ends overnight, the property owner then has the next 8 hours of daylight to clear their sidewalk, before they are issued a warning and then subsequently fined.
