East Hartford Hot Weather Protocol

Effective July 5, 2023
East Hartford Hot Weather Protocol

East Hartford, CT — The Governor’s Office has activated the hot weather protocol starting Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, July 7, 2023 evening.

This will be the first activation of the hot weather protocol of the year. Summertime heat and humidity mixed with a little smoke from the Canadian wildfires will make working outside uncomfortable during the next three days. Highs are forecast to reach or exceed 90 F each day.

July 6 and July 7, 2023 are expected to be the hottest days with highs in the low 90’s and a heat index (what the temperature feels like) in the mid 90’s. A slight improvement is expected on Friday with highs in the upper 80’s and a heat index in the low 90’s.

Due to the hot weather, the Town of East Hartford would like to remind residents of important safety guidelines. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water throughout these hot days, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and limit time outdoors. Residents should also remember to regularly check on infants and children as well as elderly or physically ill, because they are at a greater risk for heat-related illnesses. Those individuals should be very cautious of sun exposure.

Among various symptoms of heat-related illnesses are headache, dizziness, fatigue, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, low pulse rate and others. Additional symptoms may include, but are not limited to, cold, pale and clammy skin or hot, flushed dry skin. Those who don’t have air conditioning at their home are advised to choose various indoor places to go for relief from the heat, like malls, theaters or designated cooling centers in town.

Please remember the Town of East Hartford has five outdoor pools that can provide some relief during hot days. For information on pool use, requirements and hours, please see this link.
