East Hartford Health Department Encourages Flu/COVID-19/RSV Vaccinations

East Hartford, CT – The East Hartford Health Department is encouraging residents to vaccinate themselves against viral respiratory illnesses such as influenza (flu), COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). These illnesses are especially common in the fall and winter.

“It is important to get vaccinated as soon as possible to keep ourselves and our community healthy as we approach holiday season gatherings and travel”, said Mayor Connor Martin. Everyone 6 months of age or older should receive an annual dose of influenza vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine for the 2023-24 respiratory season.  The RSV vaccine is recommended for adults 60 years of age and older and pregnant people during weeks 32 through 36 of pregnancy to protect infants.

“Getting your recommended seasonal vaccines is especially important for individuals at high risk of severe illness, including persons 65 years and older, pregnant people, and persons with underlying conditions, including asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and immunocompromising conditions,” said Director of Health Laurence Burnsed. It’s also important for persons that provide care or have a high-risk family member within their household to reduce the risk of exposing high-risk contacts. The East Hartford Health Department and First Choice Health Centers will be hosting a vaccine clinic on Friday, November 17th from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the East Hartford Senior Center at 15 Milbrook Drive. This clinic will offer Flu, COVID-19, RSV, pneumococcal, and shingles vaccinations for East Hartford residents. Appointments are necessary; please contact the East Hartford Health Department at 860-291-7324.

Additionally, residents are encouraged to contact their primary care provider, local pharmacy, or reach out to healthcare organizations that serve East Hartford, including Intercommunity Healthcare, First Choice Health Centers, or Malta House of Care Clinic (no insurance required).
