American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Cultural Center

East Hartford, CT— The Town will be hosting a blood drive through the American Red Cross on Tuesday, August 1 2023, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Community Cultural Center Gymnasium (50 Chapman Place, East Hartford). Please consider donating! The Red Cross has seen a concerning shortfall in blood and platelet donations over recent weeks. Now, giving blood is critical to help recover the blood supply.

The American Red Cross must collect enough blood every day to meet the needs of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. When making your decision to donate, please consider:

  • The Red Cross collects, processes and distributes about 40% of the nation’s blood supply.
  • Each day, the Red Cross needs to collect about 12,500 blood donations and nearly 3,000 platelet donations to meet the needs of patients at about 2,500 hospitals and other facilities across the country.
  • About 62% of the U.S. population is eligible to give blood but only about 3% donates.
  • The need for blood is constant. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.
  • A single blood donation can help save more than one life.
