Library programs for Young Children

The East Hartford Public Library is proud to announce an ambitious lineup of library programs for young children for winter 2023 - 24! Join us for play, music, stories, and more. No registration required. 

Wickham Program: Baby and Toddler Storytime
Mondays, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
January 22 & 29
February 5 & 26
March 4 & 11 
Join us for stories, songs, and gentle play for babies ages birth to 24 months. We’ll share books, learn rhymes and songs, and make friends! For babies not yet crawling, bring a blanket. Older siblings welcome. Registration not required.  
 
Sensory Play and Loose Parts Investigation 
Mondays, 1:00 – 4:00 PM
December: no program December 25
January: no program January 1 & 15
February: no program February 12 & 19
Children & families are invited to join us in the Children's Department at Raymond Library on Monday afternoons anytime between 1 - 4 PM for sensory table exploration! Our sensory table will be filled with different "loose parts" to discover, build, and play with. Through the use of these materials that can be sorted, combined, redesigned, taken apart and put back together in multiple ways, "loose parts" play offers open-ended play that supports invention, problem solving, and creative thinking. This program is best suited for children ages 3 - 8. No registration required.   
 
Hokey Pokey Party 
Tuesdays, 6:30 – 7:00 PM, Raymond Library
December 12, January 16, February 20
Bring the kids to stretch, sing, dance, and explore music together! Best suited for children ages 2-6 years and their caregivers. Siblings are welcome. Registration not required. 
 
Open House and Free Play @ Raymond Library
Every Wednesday from 9:30 – 11:00 AM, December - February 
Drop in to see what the library is all about! Beginning at 9:30am we will have toys and activities in the Children’s department and Program room for you to explore together with a child. Specialists in health and well-being will be invited each week and will be available to chat. Stay for songs and a story at 10:30am. Best suited for ages 2-4 years old (siblings welcome). Registration not required.  
 
Family Storytime
Fridays, 10:00 - 11:00 AM, January 19 - February 23, Raymond Library
Join us on Friday mornings in the Children's Program Room for Family Storytime! We'll read, sing, dance, and create together to promote and develop early literacy skills and imagination! Program is best suited for children ages 5 and under and their caregivers. No registration required.
