Goodwin College Holds Groundbreaking for Gateway Commercial Building
East Hartford's Goodwin College is expanding its campus to a Main Street gateway at the corner of Ensign Street with a new mixed-use commercial building. Mayor Marcia Leclerc, Goodwin College President Mark Scheinberg, and other local dignitaries participated in a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, October 10th, 2019 at the 365 Main Street construction site. The $8 million, 25,000-square-foot facility will be home to restaurants, offices, and retail space, including a branch of another East Hartford-based institution, American Eagle Federal Credit Union. It will be the first phase of a campus expansion project, which will also include a riverfront and hotel and marina. It is made possible by a $4 million drainage improvement project, funded by the state's Capital Region Development Authority. Goodwin is also currently constructing a Manufacturing Annex at their Pent Road site which will help train workers for advanced manufacturing employment.
