Farmers’ Market Vouchers Still Available to Eligible Residents

East Hartford, CT - The Town of East Hartford reminds eligible residents there is still time to receive farmers’ market vouchers from the Social Services or Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.  Both voucher programs provide a coupon booklet to participants to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs at authorized farmers’ market locations.  The East Hartford farmers’ market occurs every Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Raymond Library lawn and accepts both the senior farmers’ market and WIC vouchers.  Vouchers from both programs can be redeemed at markets until November 30, 2022.

Senior farmers’ market nutrition program (SFMNP) vouchers

Eligibility Guidelines

In order to qualify for SFMNP, individuals must:

  • Be 60 years of age or older OR is a disabled individual under the age of 60 living in housing facilities occupied primarily by older individuals where congregate nutrition services are provided.
  • Have a maximum household income of not more than 185 percent of the annual poverty income guidelines. The most recent income limits available shall be used at the time of distribution to determine eligibility.
  • Have gone through proper means testing to support income eligibility.  Examples include Renters’ Rebate, Operation Fuel, and tax relief programs.

Women, Infants & Children farmers’ market vouchers

WIC farmers’ market voucher booklets are available to all active WIC clients.  Clients are able to receive both United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) federal vouchers, and State Department of Agriculture vouchers.  In addition to the availability of one voucher booklet for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum client, the number of additional booklets for families is based on the number of children that are at least one year of age as of October 31, 2022.  For example, if there are four eligible children in your family, then four additional booklets are issued.  Federal farmers’ market booklets are valued at $16.00 each.  State vouchers are valued at $32.00 and are issued at the same time.  Additional state vouchers may be available as supplies last. 

Clients that receive services from the East Hartford WIC program can pick-up the federal and state voucher booklets at the EH WIC office located at 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford, CT 06108.  Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.  For more information, clients can contact the WIC program office at (860) 291-7190.
