Senior Center - Facility & Activities

The Town of East Hartford Senior Services Division operates the East Hartford Senior Center located at 15 Milbrook Drive. The facility is open to all East Hartford residents age 55 and over. Senior Services does not charge an annual membership fee to participate in Town programs, classes, events or activities. Please call 860-291-7460.

Computer Learning Center

The Computer Learing Center is currently closed.

Fitness/Movement Classes for All Fitness Levels

Energetic Exercise - This class is designed for those who want to improve their strength, muscle tone, and endurance through low-impact aerobic, balance and strength exercises. Light handweights are available for use. Class meets 2 mornings per week year-round.

Tai Chi – This form of Chinese martial arts can be an effective therapy for a range of health problems. Tai chi can reduce the risk of falls and injury. It may also improve circulation, flexibility, posture, blood pressure and heart rate as well as ease pain, reduce stress, and increase energy. Beginner and Intermediate classes are offered. Morning classes are offered year-round.

Yoga – The benefits of Yoga go beyond relaxation. It also enhances coordination, balance, strength and flexibility, and concentration. Good for the mind and body. Please bring a yoga mat. Afternoon class offered year-round.

Senior Pool Aerobics - Low-impact, easy and fun way to exercise. The water adds resistance to your movements without adding stress to your joints. Located at the East Hartford Middle School from September - June and at an outdoor Town pool during July - August. Class doesn't meet during school holidays/vacations. Early evening class.

Zumba for Seniors - Put the fun back in fitness! Certified Zumba instructors will lead you through aerobics routines spiced up with salsa, cumbia, merengue, Bollywood, and more. You'll love the music and the moves - so much fun you forget you're exercising. Morning class is offered year-round.

Additional Fitness/Movement Classes

Gentle Movement Chair Exercise - Gentle stretching, toning, and strength exercises while seated in a chair. Great for people of all activity levels...those who are looking for easier, gentle exercise and those who are a little more fit. Each class also includes breathing exercises, relaxation, stress relief, and other techniques for health. Late morning class is offered year-round.

Tap Dance Classes are available September through May. Practice your shuffles and steps and learn a new routine. Tap Dance is a good way to exercise and an enjoyable social activity. Morning class.

Creative Expression

The Senior Center has Painting as well as an Embroidery/Knit/Crochet class. Both classes offer individual help and feedback from the instructors. For Painting - Explore and improve your painting skills including technique, composition and color using water soluble oils or acrylic. All levels are welcome! For Embroidery/Knit/Crochet - Learn the basics of knitting and crochet to start your project or get help with a pattern you are working on. All levels are welcome!
