Dial-a-Ride (in-town rides)
Dial-A-Ride is a locally-operated transportation service for older adults and individuals with disabilities.The service operates on-demand and rides must be booked in advance. Besides offering rides to Stop & Shop twice a week and to Shop Rite twice a week, the service also provides transportation to doctors' offices located on Eastern & Western Boulevard in Glastonbury only as well as to banks, and pharmacies within the Town of East Hartford. On Fridays and with advanced notice, Dial-A-Ride goes to Manchester for medical appointments.
Hours are 8:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m.. Monday through Friday. Dial-A-Ride is free to ride.
ADA Transportation (out-of-town rides)
Provides transportation to individuals who have a disability or specific impairment-related condition that prevents them from traveling to or from a bus stop on the public bus system. This service is designed to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act criteria established by the Federal Government. An application form can be requested by calling (203) 365-8522 ext. 273 or online. ADA Paratransit operates (7 days) per week, Monday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m.. to 10:00 p.m.. The transportation covers trips to Avon, Berlin, Bloomfield, Bristol, Cromwell, East Hartford, Ellington, Farmington, Glastonbury, Hartford, Manchester, New Britain, Newington, Plainville, Rocky Hill, South Windsor, Vernon/Rockville, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks. Once approved for ADA Paratransit you may call (860) 724-5340 for a ride. There is a $3.50 charge per ride paid to the driver or you may purchase ticket books for $24.00 for ten (10) rides from Social Services or Senior Services while supply lasts. Books of tickets may also be purchased from Stop & Shop for $28.00 per book. This is the only transportation for out of town locations.
Town Senior Bus
The Senior Center bus is used on Thursday, Friday and Sunday for trips for educational, recreational, socialization and shopping purposes. Examples are U.S.. Coast Guard Band Concert, Dogwood Festival, Woodstock Fair, Cracker Barrel & Walmart to name just a few. Trips are planned a month in advance. There is no fee for this transportation.
