East Hartford to Join Communities Nationwide for "America's Night Out Against Crime"

East Hartford, CT - The Town of East Hartford will once again join communities nationwide for National Night Out – America’s Night Out Against Crime. Events will take place beginning at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 3, at various locations throughout East Hartford.

"The National Night Out event is instrumental in bringing the community together under positive circumstances and fostering pride and appreciation of the wonderful town we live in," said Mayor Marcia Leclerc.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. For years, neighborhoods throughout East Hartford were invited to join forces with over 38.5 million people in more than 16,500 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world for the National Night Out crime prevention event. Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the event from occurring. Now, Chief Scott Sansom and the East Hartford Police Department are proud to announce that National Night Out is back, at least a modified version of it. 

“Although the pandemic affected the planning schedule for the traditional gathering this year, we still want to honor National Night Out and the strong East Hartford Community Spirit,” said Police Chief Scott Sansom. “So we’re bringing a version of National Night Out into the community,” Sansom explained.

On Tuesday, August 3, residents throughout East Hartford and across the nation are invited to join neighbors and police for a traveling “block party’ that will take place for 90 minutes at the following Town of East Hartford locations:

  • Gorman Park on May Road at 1:00 PM
  • Hockanum Park on High Street at 3:00 PM
  • Martin Park on Burnside Avenue at 5:00 PM
  • Labor Field on Woodlawn Circle at 7:00 PM

“America’s Night Out Against Crime” will include music, games, police K-9 as well as vehicles and equipment, and fun while enjoying refreshments and conversation with Officers - there will be something for everyone, children and adults alike.

“This is another great opportunity to bring police and the community we protect and serve together under positive circumstances,” said Chief Sansom. “National Night Out triumphs over a culture that isolates us from each other  It brings a true sense of community, with fun for the whole family.  We’re excited to bring it back again this year. Everyone is welcome,” Sansom added.
