Aquatic Facilities

Middle School Indoor Pool
777 Burnside Ave (School Address).  Pool entrance located on Scotland Road.  Indoor pool located in the back of the school. Typically used for swim lessons, swim, and other scheduled programs throughout the year.
Open for limited programs for residents only!   Max of 12 swimmers permitted in the pool at a time.  Reservations recommended for pool use.  Admission is free; proof of residency and daily sign-in required.  Masks required for all swimmers while entering the building, in the locker rooms and on deck.  Masks to be removed when swimming.

Reservations are available for each week beginning Mondays at 9:00 AM.  Please call 860-291-7160 to reserve your time slot.  Max of four 30 minute slots can be reserved per person per week.  If additional open slots remain, residents may sign up for additional slots after 3pm and before 4pm on that day. Terry Pool  (Outdoor/Seasonal Facility) - Closed for the 2021 season
Hockanum Park, 320 High St.  Located by Hockanum School.  Features a 50 meter pool with two diving boards, and a ramp for accessible entry.  Olympic Size!

Martin Pool  (Outdoor/Seasonal Facility) - Closed for the 2021 season
Martin Park, 307 Burnside Ave. Located in Martin Park. This is a historic pool dating back to 1938, rectangular with a separate wading pool.

Drennan Pool  (Outdoor/Seasonal Facility) - Closed for the 2021 season
McAuliffe Park, 30 Remington Rd. Located next to Anna Norris School.  Features a rectangular pool with a ramp for accessible entry.

Lord Pool  (Outdoor/Seasonal Facility) - Closed for the 2021 season
Gorman Park, 258 May Rd.  Located behind O’Connell School.  Features a ramp for accessible entry, water slide, and separate wading pool.

Goldstar Pool  (Outdoor/Seasonal Facility) - Closed for the 2021 season
Goodwin Park, 1235 Forbes St.  Located behind Goodwin Elementary School. Features a family friendly pool with a mushroom water feature.


Admission to Town of East Hartford Aquatic Facilities is free for residents.
Proof of residency is required for all persons ages 7 and older.
 

Non-residents are not permitted to use our indoor pools at this time due to capacity limitations.

East Hartford Resident Adult (Ages 16+) - Acceptable forms of ID are Driver’s License/permit or State Issued ID Card.

East Hartford Resident Child (Ages 7-15) - Acceptable forms of ID are East Hartford Public School ID (current year) or Parks and Recreation Youth Photo ID.  Parks and Recreation Youth ID cards are available for residents ages 7-15 from East Hartford Parks and Recreation.  The cost is $6.00 and are valid for three years.  Children 11 and under must be accompanied by a responsible swimmer age 16 or older.  The application for a Youth Photo ID is available here.

East Hartford Resident Child (Ages 6 and under) - Must be accompanied by a responsible swimmer age 16 or older and must remain within arms reach of that person at all times when in the water. .

All Non-Residents - At this time non-residents are not permitted to use our indoor pools until further notice due to capacity limitations.


Pool Rules 

  • Reservations are strongly recommended for indoor pool use.  Maximum of 12 swimmers may be in the indoor pool at a time. Residents may reserve four, 30-minute blocks of swim time per week.  Call 860-291-7160 for more information.  Non-residents are not permitted to use our indoor pool at this time due to capacity limitations.
  • Those who are having any symptoms of illness should not enter any town facilities.
  • Our indoor pools are open to East Hartford residents only.  Residents must provide appropriate ID to prove residency. Those without proof of residency will be not be permitted entry into our facilities.  
  • All guests utilizing the indoor pool will need to sign in daily and provide contact information. 
  • All guests should shower at home, and should wear bathing suits to and from the facility when possible.  Lockers may not be available. 
  • When our indoor pool exceeds the maximum capacity of 12 swimmers at a time, priority will be given to guests who have made swim reservations in advance.
  • Social distancing of a least 6 feet between non-family members should be maintained at all times while in the facility, on deck or in the water.
  • All guests over the age of 2 must wear face masks when entering/exiting the facility, using the restrooms, or moving about on deck.  Those with medical issues are not required to wear masks.
  • Our staff will wear masks when social distancing is not possible.  They will not wear masks while in elevated lifeguard chairs. 
  • All guests will be asked to remain within their own space on the pool deck while out of the water.  All belongings must be placed within this space, not on common walkways.
  • Social distancing while in the pool is the primary responsibility of our swimmers.  However, our staff may request more physical space between groups when necessary.  Guests must comply with all facility rules as well as the instructions of our staff.  
  • Pool equipment will not be available for shared use.  This includes goggles, balls, kickboards, noodles, etc.
  • Guests are advised to cover coughs or sneezes and avoid touching the eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Guests should wash their hands with soap after touching shared surfaces or using restrooms.
  • Water fountains may not be in service; we recommend that all guests bring a water bottle.
  • All persons entering this facility must abide by facility rules and the directives of our staff and lifeguards at all times.  Failure to do so will result in removal from the facility and/or a temporary or permanent suspension.
  • Swimming is only permitted when the facility is open and lifeguards are on duty. Swimmers are responsible for their own safety.
  • All persons must shower with water and soap before entering the pool.
  • Children below age 7 or those children whose shoulders are not above the height of the water at the shallowest point of the pool must be accompanied in the water by a parent or guardian who must remain within arms reach at all times.
  • Children ages 7 and up are required to use gender appropriate locker rooms. If a child requires assistance, they must be accompanied by a gender appropriate parent or guardian. If a parent of the opposite gender wishes to accompany their child inside of a locker room, they must wait until all members of the opposite sex are out of the locker room in order to go in. The locker room that the parent wishes to accompany the child into must be of the parent or guardian's gender.
  • Children ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult age 16 or older. Children 12 and older may use the facilities independently.
  • Personal flotation devices must be stamped “Coast Guard Approved” and used with an adult swimmer within arms reach of the swimmer.
  • Proper swim attire is required. Swimsuits must conform to accepted standards of decency. Cutoff shorts, gym and basketball/sport shorts are not permitted. No clothing of any kind in the pool unless authorized. Authorized clothing can only be a white t-shirt. No pants of any kind.
  • Infants and persons without bowel control must wear specially designed ‘swim diapers’ or tight fitting rubber pants over cloth diapers.  No regular disposable diapers are permitted.
  • Persons reasonably suspected to have any considerable area of exposed sub-epidermal tissue, cuts, or known or recognizable contagious/communicable diseases, cough, cold, open sores, blisters, bandaged wounds, fever, inflammation of the eyes, nasal or ear discharge, are not be permitted to enter the pool. Persons with diarrhea must wait 48 hours before swimming.
  • Urinating, spitting, blowing the nose, spouting water or depositing foreign matter into the pool is prohibited.
  • All animals, with the exception of service animals, are prohibited from entering the facilities.
  • Boisterous or rough play, shoulder rides, dunking, and running is prohibited. Playing or hanging on lane lines and safety buoys is not permitted. No person shall bring/throw into the pool any object that may carry contamination or endanger the safety of any other swimmer.
  • Prolonged underwater breath holding is prohibited.
  • No diving is permitted excepted in designated areas.
  • Before using the diving board, water slide or deep water, a swimmer must demonstrate swimming ability.
  • Blankets, towels and folding chairs may not be placed on walkways.  Guests may bring in a chair, but no other furniture or tables are permitted.
  • Tobacco, food, chewing gum, sunflower seeds and drink are prohibited on the pool deck or in the pool. Glass containers are prohibited. Water fountains may not be in service; we recommend that all guests bring a water bottle.
  • Coolers are not permitted.  Please bring your own trash bag and carry-in, carry-out.  Meals beyond a small snack must be enjoyed outside the facility.
  • No person under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be permitted entry.
  • In the event of thunder and lightning in the area, lifeguards will close the pool immediately upon hearing thunder or observing lightning.  The facility will be closed and will reopen 30 minutes after the last time thunder is heard or lightning is observed.
  • Abusive or profane language or music will not be tolerated. Swimmers using offensive language, tones or gestures will lose their swimming privileges.
  • Our staff is not responsible for valuables. Personal items should be secured in a locker. Locks must be removed daily, and will be removed if left overnight.
  • All facilities have an established capacity. The capacity may be changed at any time at the discretion of Parks and Recreation staff.
  • Any of the above rules are subject to change at any time. 

Swim Lessons

Group Swim Lessons are held at the East Hartford Middle School Pool, 777 Burnside Ave (School Address), but the pool is only accessible from the school entrance on Scotland Road.  Swim Lessons are taught by American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards and emphasize water safety, drowning prevention & and skill acquisition. Proper swim lesson level placement is critical for your child’s success in swim lessons, as well as ensuring that the experience is enjoyable and safe. Please scroll down to see level descriptions posted below to assist you in choosing the most approporate level for your child.  Classes are held once a week on Wednesdays or Saturdays for 8 weeks.

Fee:  $40/8 classes for residents (registration begins Monday, Oct. 4th at 9am)

Swim Lesson Level Descriptions and Class Schedules
We are proud to be an authorized provider of the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program.  
Waterbabies:  6 months to 3 years (with Parent)  Parents & children participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including bubble blowing, front & back kicking & floating and experience underwater exploration and more.

Preschool: Ages 4 & 5.  Children participate in several guided practice sessions that help them learn elementary skills, including bubble blowing, front and back kicking and floating and experience underwater exploration and more.
Level 1:  Introduction to Water Skills:  Ages 6 & up.  Learn basic personal water safety information and skills, to help participants feel comfortable in the water.  At this level basic aquatic skills are taught including front/back floats, kicking actions, gliding, bobs and more.
Level 2:  Fundamental Aquatic Skills: Teaching of fundamental skills that will be used throughout the Learn to Swim program.  Swimmers will learn to float without support, and will begin to move through the water independently.
Level 3:  Stroke Development: Build on previously learned skills taught by providing additional guided practice.  Begin to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke on their own.
Level 4:  Stroke Development: Develop swimmers confidence in the strokes learned thus far and improve other aquatic skills. Swimmers continue to learn new strokes: side-stroke, back-crawl, and will start to develop the breast-stroke and butterfly and the basics of turning at the wall are explored.
Level 5:  Stroke Refinement: Coordination & refinement of strokes. Refine performance of all the strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke), flip turns, increase endurance & distances.
Level 6:  Swimming & Skill Proficiency: Refine strokes so participants can swim with greater ease, efficiency, power and smoothness and over greater distances.  Personal Water Safety and Fitness Swimming are additional focuses of the class.
Adult Swim Lessons:  Ages 15 and up.  For adults of all ability levels.  Instructor will tailor classes to suit the individual needs of each participant.
