East Hartford Golf Course Continues to Evolve

The Town of East Hartford has a vibrant and diverse business community and I, as your Mayor and a lifelong resident, am always happy to see our businesses grow as they strive to meet the needs of our residents and visitors.

We are proud to be a business-friendly community, and we are constantly working to make East Hartford an even better place to work and grow. Most recently, one of our local businesses—the East Hartford Golf Club—has been growing bigger and developing faster than ever before. The golf club is really a gem for golf-lovers, offering a wonderful family experience to both professional and amateur golfers.

For some context and history, the town purchased the golf course from a private owner in 1974 and managed it until 2007. Since then, the business has gone through a number of directors in hopes to find the ideal property manager that would be focused on improving the course’s operations.  In 2013, Billy Casper Golf was selected as the manager of the club and has been operating the course since.

Billy Casper Golf (BCG) is one of the largest privately owned golf course management companies in the United States, with nearly 150 properties in 29 states and over 25 years of result-driven expertise behind them. In the past five years, BCG significantly enhanced the quality of operations of the East Hartford Golf Club, expanded its services and focused on providing a great golfing experience to its customers. Additionally, managers have recently completed a series of upgrades at the golf club, making the 105-acre property the place to be on a warm summer day. In fact, today, the East Hartford Golf Club is an attraction for not only local and out-of-town customers, but foreign visitors as well. Ronny Rockenbauer, of Austria, is one of those visitors. Rockenbauer, who recently visited the United States with his family, spent a few days at the East Hartford Golf Club and loved the experience, he said.

“It’s perfect, I really enjoyed it,” Rockenbauer said about the golf course.

The Golf Course General Manager Chris Gibbs attributes the growing success of the golf course to a number of recent updates, such as strategic tree trimming that has be done to eliminate an obstruction to golfers and excellent course conditions that are regularly maintained and beautified with flower gardens that greet visitors at the entrance, water fountains and a brand-new well that fills the ponds located on the course and are used to irrigate the property. The ponds are not only a great addition to the landscape but are also cost-efficient for the town.

 The East Hartford Golf Course has been transformed over the last several years and is now a great town asset once again. Over the past several years we have renewed this asset to one that offers a great golfing experience with well-maintained and managed greens and ground, thanks to a great partnership between BCG and the Town.

The East Hartford Golf Club takes the experience of its customers to the next level with a recently upgraded bar and kitchen area. The restaurant menu now offers freshly-made salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and much more. Golfers can enjoy their dinner outdoor under a beautiful deck canopy or in the restaurant.

Finally, just recently the East Hartford Golf Club has launched a free app that can be downloaded through an App Store on your digital devices. From restaurant menu and a schedule for upcoming events, to leadership board and a built-in GPS—the app is everything a golfer needs for a pleasant and successful game.
