The Department of Inspections and Permits has the responsibility of enforcing the Property Maintenance Code and related Blight ordinances of the Town of East Hartford. Every property owner is required to maintain their properties and buildings. This is in the interest of health, safety, and welfare. Our department has inspectors whose duties include responding to complaints when property maintenance issues are brought to our attention.

The Town of East Hartford has adopted the 2015 ICC International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) and has amended certain provisions by ordinance to address local concerns and coordinate with overlapping statutes and regulations. The town amendments to the 2015 IPMC can be found in Chapter 7 of the Town Ordinances.

To report concerns realted to Property Maintenance and Blight such as tall grass, waste and furniture in yards, vehicles parked on front lawns, and concerns with the general maintenance of private property please enter a request using our My East Hartord reporting platform.
