Biography - Director of Inspections and Permits Greg Grew

Greg Grew was appointed as Director of Inspections and Permits in 2011. As the Director of Inspections and Permits, Greg oversees the activities of the department responsible for ensuring a safe built environment for residents and businesses in the town. He serves as the designated Building Official and Zoning Enforcement Official for the town. He is responsible for compliance with the State Building Code, Zoning Regulations of the Town of East Hartford, and the Property Maintenance Code for residential and commercial buildings in the town. In addition to the general oversight of the department, Greg provides advice to building owners and contractors regarding compliance with construction codes, oversees the permit review process, reviews plans and specifications, oversees inspections, provides advice and support to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Beautification Commission

Prior to working with the Town of East Hartford, Greg had been a practicing architect in his own firm for 22 years, designing hundreds of residential, commercial and institutional projects. He also managed the construction or built many of the projects he designed. With his expertise in codes and regulations he also provided consulting services to other design professionals and building owners regarding compliance with codes and streamlining permitting.  He has practiced in about half of the state’s municipalities as well as several other states. He brings an understanding of the customer service needed by property owners and contractors dealing with this department.

Currently Greg is licensed as an architect in CT, NY and NJ and as a building official in CT. He is a professional member of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Connecticut, Connecticut Building Officials Association, National Fire Protection Association, and Construction Specifications Institute.
