East Hartford, CT – UConn Health and the Town of East Hartford are teaming up to distribute COVID-19 vaccines via a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Mobile Vaccination Unit (MVU) in East Hartford on April 28 and 29. The initiative is in partnership with FEMA, Connecticut’s Governor’s Office, and the Department of Public Health.

UConn Health will deploy the MVU in four towns throughout Eastern Connecticut for nine days beginning on April 28 in East Hartford through the beginning of May. The MVU will later travel to the towns of Killingly, Windham/Willimantic, and Norwich as part of a large-scale vaccine campaign to bring the vaccine to under-served communities and reduce any barriers to receiving the vaccine.

UConn Health is engaging its students and other trainees to help with this mobile vaccination initiative. Students and faculty members from the UConn Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and in our Public Health Sciences department, as well as our medical and dental residents, are volunteering to support the FEMA Mobile Vaccine Unit.

The Pfizer vaccine will be given to all those age 16 plus who have not been vaccinated yet. Those who are 16 and 17 years of age should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. An appointment for the second dose will be made on the day of your first vaccination. Additional information on the vaccine will follow. Eligible individuals are strongly encouraged to make an advance appointment by calling UConn Health’s dedicated Mobile Vaccination Unit Scheduling Line at 860-679-6547 starting Thursday, April 15. The phone line is available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“At UConn Health we are deeply committed to addressing health disparities and increasing access to health care.  In fact, as the state’s only public academic medical center, these are among our core values,” says Dr. Andrew Agwunobi, CEO of UConn Health. “We are proud to be part for this federal mobile vaccination unit initiative that will make a real difference in getting the vaccine to individuals and communities that have underserved populations.”

“East Hartford is excited to be a host to the federal mobile vaccination clinic later this month,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “East Hartford has always been a collaborative partner and we look forward to the partnership with UConn Health to deliver the life-saving COVID-19 vaccine to hundreds of individuals and families within our community. I am grateful for the opportunity being offered through the collaborative partnership with UCONN Health, FEMA, DPH and under the leadership of Governor Lamont.”

The mobile vaccination unit will be in East Hartford April 28 and 29 at 936 Silver Lane, East Hartford (former Showcase Cinemas) from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Those interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine should schedule an appointment in advance.  To schedule an appointment, please call 860-679-6547.
