The Town of East Hartford Announces New Waste Services Vendor and Process

East Hartford, CT — The Town of East Hartford and the East Hartford Public Works Department announce changes to waste collection services that will affect all 1-6 family properties and their occupants effective July 1, 2022. The service changes will not disrupt current collection days. Instead, residents should expect improved accessibility to this service.

Effective July 1, 2022, All American Waste will perform curbside pickup of regular waste green carts. Residents are urged to follow new rules for setting out both the refuse and recycling carts. Carts must be out the night before your collection day. Residents can no longer place their carts on the curb the morning of pick-up. Carts put out later than 5 am will not be collected until the following week.

The number of holidays that result in waste pick up service delays will be reduced to 6 per year and can be found here. Please know, your weekly trash collection schedule will not be impacted. A street-by-street waste collection schedule is available here.

Bulky Waste:

Effective July 1, 2022, residents will no longer need a permit for the curbside pick-up of bulky waste.  Residents may call All American Waste at 860-289-7850 for an appointment for curbside bulky waste pick-up. Single and 2-family properties will receive two (2) FREE pick-ups per unit for each fiscal year, July to June. Three (3) to six (6) family units will receive four (4) FREE pick-ups per unit for each fiscal year.  All 1-6 family properties may schedule additional pick-ups after their FREE appointments at a fee of $25 each to be paid by credit or debit card. Only 6 items are to be placed on the curb per appointment and a list of acceptable and unacceptable items is available here.

Transfer Station:

For Transfer Station access, users of the Transfer Station on Ecology Drive will be required to renew or complete a new permit application as has been the practice for many years. Transfer Station Bulky Permit sales are in progress and ticket usage begins July 1, 2022. Please be advised, there will be changes coming to the Transfer Station user fees effective October 1, 2022. Until then, residents should follow the same permit application/renewal process. Any transfer station tickets purchased for fiscal year 2023 will be honored when the new transfer station fees are adopted in the Fall.
