The East Hartford Transfer Station Introduces New System

East Hartford, CT— Effective October 1, 2022, the East Hartford Transfer Station will introduce a new pay-at-the gate system.

New Transfer Station Fees and Payment-At-The-Gate

The following changes at the Transfer Station are intended to speed the use of the facility by eliminating the paper registration process of the past:

  • New fees have been set for all users of the transfer station based on vehicle type. The fees range from $10 to $100. Please visit this page for details.
  • Eligible Transfer Station users include owners and tenants of 1-6 family units, home owners and tenants of apartment complexes and condominiums 7 and above. No commercial landlords or businesses are eligible.
  • Required identification (ID) must be presented at the gate. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver's license, Connecticut license, energy bills, apartment lease, mortgage or tax documents indicating your name and the East Hartford property address where you reside.
  • New pay-at-the-gate system will make it convenient to drive directly to the Transfer Station gate. Acceptable form of payment includes credit and debit cards, money orders or checks. Cash transactions are NOT permitted.
  • 1-6 family LLC property owners must obtain an “LLC Certificate” from the Public Works Administration Office.

Curbside Bulky Pick-up is FREE!

Residents are no longer required to purchase a bulky waste permit to have their bulky waste picked up curbside.

  • 1-2 family properties are eligible for two FREE curbside bulky pickups per fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
  • 3-6 family properties are eligible for 4 FREE curbside bulky pickups per fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
    Additional appointments beyond the free pickup will result in a $25 charge.

When scheduling a curbside bulky waste pickup, please know:

  • You can place only 6 items on the curb at a time.
