Senior Center Weekly Update - Monday, September 11, 2017

East Hartford residents 55 years old and over are welcome to sign up for day trips with free transportation! You only pay for admission or the cost of your lunch. On Thursday, September 14, join the group heading to Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford. Enjoy a wine tasting, receive a signature glass and take in the beautiful views of woodlands, fields and vineyards. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the day for only the $12 fee for the wine tasting.  Have lunch at the Golden Corral in Springfield, MA on Friday September 15. Lunch is on your own at the all-you-can-eat buffet. Take a ride to the Big E on Thursday, September 21. Admission is $12 and you can have lunch on your own either sampling some crazy fair food or sticking with the basic food groups.  Treat yourself to a day away! Just call the Senior Center office to make your reservation. 

We have been getting some calls about the Flu Shot Clinic dates. There will be two Friday clinics from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on October 13 and October 20. Please bring your insurance card and ID. Mark your calendar and more information will be provided as we get closer to the dates. 

Do you know that the East Hartford Senior Center serves a hot lunch every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? Call 860-569-5654 before noon on the day before you are coming to make a reservation. A full meal is served for a $2.50 donation. 

We offer a low-cost foot care program and there are still some openings for Wednesday, September 20. The cost is $29 per person. Just give us a call to make an appointment. 

Have you always wanted to tap dance? The Tap class begins on Tuesday, September 12 through November 14, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for $15 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. All 10 classes for $15! What a good time to try. 

All levels are welcome for the Embroidery, Knit and Crochet class. The instructor will work with each student individually. If you like needlecrafts, you will want to join this class on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30. The session begins on September 13 and ends on October 18. The six-week session is $15 for residents and $18 for nonresidents. We also have a Drop-In Knitting and Crochet Group that meets on Tuesdays from 1 – 3 p.m. No need to register for the drop-in group, just stop in! 

If you use an iPad, join us for a new group that is starting. The iPad User Group brings together people who use the iPad and want to go a bit further. Share your knowledge with others and you will pick up some tips yourself. The group will begin on Monday, September 11 at 10 a.m. Please call to let us know you are coming.

Do you play Dominoes? Let’s get a group together to play. Why stay in all winter.  Our first organizational meeting will be on Friday, September 22 at 1 p.m. Bring your dominoes set with you. If you are interested, give us a call to let us know you are coming. If you do not get a chance to call, just drop in.
