Pianist Paul Bisaccia to Perform May 6

The East Hartford Commission on Culture and Fine Arts is pleased to present Paul Bisaccia performing “Moonlight Sonata – The Romantic Piano” on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at the First Congregational Church, 837 Main Street (corner of Main Street and Connecticut Boulevard), East Hartford.  Admission is free! 

Mr. Bisaccia says in many ways Beethoven can be considered the first Romantic pianist. He broke all the rules in the name of expression and in doing so changed forever the way pianists conceive of the piano.  Here is a concert of music from the golden age of piano composers. Besides Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata we will include Chopin’s “Revolutionary “and “Harp” Etudes.  Also included will be music by the lion of the keyboard, Franz Liszt, including his Dream of Love (Liebestraume) and The Sigh (Un Sospiro).  To round out this concert of romantic piano music will be the famous Prelude by Rachmaninoff and Gershwin’s “The Man I Love”.

Paul, who was a guest lecturer at Harvard, will add a little history, more humor and many anecdotes that make the men who made the music come alive for the afternoon.  As an added bonus there will be a wide screen on stage presenting a live close-up of the pianist’s hands so everyone will have a good view.
