Parks and Recreation Now Accepting Applications for Summer Employment

Flyer - Now Hiring

East Hartford Parks and Recreation is now accepting applications for Summer 2020 employment opportunities, which include seasonal lifeguard, swim instructor and camp counselor positions.  Employment applications are available HERE or in the Parks and Recreation office located at 50 Chapman Place in the Lower Level of the Community Cultural Center.  The Parks and Recreation department typically hires 30-40 new lifeguards, swim instructors and camp counselors each year to work at various camp sites and pools throughout town.

Camp Counselors must be at least 16 years old and are responsible for planning and leading activities and experiences for children in a group setting, as well as overseeing the general safety and development of the children under their supervision.  Camp counselors should be available to work the entire summer season, Monday through Friday from June 22 – August 14.  Prior experience working with children is highly preferred.

Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old and have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding or be able to successfully complete a course prior to the start of the summer season.  Lifeguards are assigned to one of the town’s outdoor or indoor pools, and typically work a varied schedule including nights and weekends.

Swim Instructors must be at least 16+ and have current certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI).  Swim instructors provide swim lessons and teach water safety skills to participants of all ages.

The Parks and Recreation Department is offering both Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification courses this spring.  Those who are seeking certification are encouraged to register for the courses early as spaces are limited.  More information about our upcoming certification courses can be found in our Winter and Spring 2020 Program Brochure or on our website.

Additionally, a Lifeguard Job Fair will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020, from 6:30-8pm at the High School Pool.  Interested candidates ages 13 and up are invited to attend to learn more about becoming a lifeguard, ask questions, meet our staff and try out some of the in-water skills.  Pre-registration is not required.

Working for East Hartford Parks and Recreation is a fun, rewarding experience!  Those interested in applying for seasonal positions are encouraged to do so before March 31st, 2020.
