MDC to Hold Biannual Hazardous Waste Collection Day
The Metropolitan District Commission will host its fall Hazardous Waste Collection Day in East Hartford at the East Hartford Transfer Station at 61 Ecology Drive on Saturday, October 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a great opportunity for residents to dispose of hazardous wastes that cannot be put in trash receptacles.
Please be advised, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the MDC has instituted safety protocols for those benefiting from this service. Due to COVID, the service will follow a drive-through model and individuals are asked to follow the protocols below:
- Limit ONE person per vehicle.
- Remain in your vehicle at all times.
- Keep your windows rolled up.
- Be ready to place driver’s license against window for proof of residency.
- Place only the waste items you want removed in the trunk of your vehicle. Remove all other items.
- Workers will remove the contents and will be in full safety gear.
- Fuel containers will not be emptied and returned.
Items accepted include but are not limited to: acids, adhesives, antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, cleaning solvents, epoxy products, items containing mercury, paint, petroleum products (gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil), and pesticides, fungicides, insecticides and herbicides.
